Storm Competitions Review — Is It Actually Worth It?
I’ll be honest, I went into Storm Competitions with my guard up.
Online competition sites have a bit of a mixed reputation in the UK, and we’ve all seen those “Win a Range Rover for £2” ads floating around on Instagram. Most of them make you wonder who’s actually winning — if anyone.
So I spent some time looking properly into Storm Competitions. I browsed the site, checked the prizes, read through a lot of Trustpilot reviews, looked at the winner content, and generally tried to get a feel for whether this was another flashy comp site or something a bit more solid.
And, to be fair, I came away more impressed than I expected.
Not completely without concerns, which I’ll get into, but overall Storm does seem to be one of the stronger names in the competition space.
What Is Storm Competitions?
Storm Competitions is an online prize competition company based in Northern Ireland. It’s been running since 2020 and follows the usual competition format: you buy low-cost tickets for the chance to win prizes such as cars, cash, tech, watches, holidays and other high-value items.
Tickets can start from as little as 10p or 25p depending on the competition, so it’s easy to see the appeal. For a small amount of money, you’re getting a shot at something that would normally be completely out of reach.
They’re also linked with Storm Motors, which helps explain why cars are such a big part of the site. A lot of the main prizes are vehicles, often with cash alternatives if you’d rather take the money instead.
The numbers are also pretty strong. Storm has tens of thousands of Trustpilot reviews, a high overall rating, and claims to have given away millions in prizes. That doesn’t automatically make any company perfect, but it does suggest this isn’t some tiny fly-by-night operation.
What Can You Win?
The site has a good mix of competitions, but cars are definitely the headline attraction.
When I looked through the site, there were prizes like Range Rovers, BMWs, Volkswagens, cash bundles and caravan packages. Some of the cars are brand new, while others are used but prepared to a high standard before being handed over.
One thing I liked is that many competitions seem to have more realistic ticket numbers than some rival sites. That matters. There are plenty of competition companies where the prize looks amazing, but then you notice there are hundreds of thousands of tickets available and your chances feel almost pointless.
Storm still isn’t something you should ever see as a guaranteed win — obviously — but the odds often feel more reasonable than the bigger, flashier alternatives.
There are also cash competitions, which are exactly what they sound like. These range from smaller amounts like £1,000 to much bigger cash prizes. No complicated prize structure, just money if you win.
Then there are instant win competitions, which are probably the most addictive part of the site. You buy a ticket and find out straight away if you’ve won one of the instant prizes. These can be small prizes, cash amounts, site credit, or bigger rewards depending on the competition.
Storm also runs tech and watch competitions, so it’s not just cars. You’ll often see things like phones, smartwatches, consoles and other popular gadgets.
Another feature worth mentioning is auto draws. These competitions are drawn automatically once they sell out, rather than waiting for a fixed date. It adds a bit of urgency, which I’m sure is intentional, but it does make the site feel more active.
Is Storm Competitions Legit?
Based on what I found, yes — Storm Competitions does appear to be legitimate.
The Trustpilot score is strong, but what matters more is the detail in the reviews. A lot of people mention specific prizes, quick payouts, smooth communication and positive handover experiences. That’s usually a better sign than vague one-line reviews.
A few themes came up again and again.
First, people like the odds. Quite a few reviewers compared Storm favourably with other competition sites, saying the ticket numbers felt more realistic and the prices were fair.
Second, winners seem to get paid quickly. Several reviews mention cash alternatives arriving the same day or within hours of submitting details. That kind of thing builds trust, because slow payouts are one of the biggest red flags with sites like this.
Third, the website is easy to use. The buying process is simple, the competitions are clearly laid out, and the mobile experience seems decent. Storm also has apps for iOS and Android, which makes entering even easier.
Another positive is the winner content. Storm regularly shows live draws, winner calls and prize handovers on social media. In an industry where people are naturally suspicious, that transparency helps a lot.
One review that stood out was from someone who had been entering for years without a major win and eventually won a car. Storm apparently flew him and his family over to Belfast for the collection. That sort of thing feels like a nice touch, and it’s the kind of detail you wouldn’t usually see from a company just going through the motions.
The Downsides
That said, it’s not all perfect.
The biggest concern I noticed was around free postal entries. Like other UK competition sites, Storm offers a free postal entry route. This is important because it helps keep the competitions compliant rather than being treated as lotteries.
A small number of reviewers claimed their postal entries didn’t appear on the entry list, even when they said they had sent them in good time. It doesn’t seem to be a huge issue compared with the volume of positive reviews, but it’s still worth knowing about. If you plan to use the postal route, I’d keep a record of what you send and when.
There were also a few complaints about customer service when things went wrong. Some people claimed they had difficulty getting issues resolved, and a couple mentioned accounts being locked or emails being blocked after raising complaints. Again, these reviews are in the minority, but they’re not something I’d ignore completely.
The other thing to be aware of is how easy it is to spend more than you planned.
Because tickets can be so cheap, it doesn’t feel like much at the time. A few 10p or 99p entries here and there can quickly turn into more than you meant to spend, especially with instant wins. It’s fun, but it’s still a form of paid competition, and you need to treat it like entertainment rather than a smart way to make money.
I also came across the odd negative review making bigger claims, including one suggesting the draws were pre-recorded. Storm responded by saying their draws are live and have been running that way for years. Personally, that particular claim didn’t seem very convincing given the amount of winner content available, but it’s still part of the overall picture.
So, Is Storm Competitions Worth Trying?
If you enjoy prize competitions and you’re sensible with your spending, Storm Competitions looks like one of the better options in the UK market.
The prizes are strong, the site is easy to use, the reviews are generally very positive, and there’s plenty of evidence of real winners. The odds also seem more reasonable than some other sites, which is a big plus.
It’s probably a good fit if you like the idea of winning a car, cash or tech prize without spending huge amounts on entries. It’s also good if you enjoy instant wins and want something that feels quick and easy to take part in.
But I’d be cautious if you’re the kind of person who can get carried away with low-cost entries. The small ticket prices are part of the appeal, but they’re also what makes it easy to overspend.
I’d also be careful if you’re planning to rely mainly on the free postal entry route. It exists, and it’s important, but based on some reviews, it’s worth keeping your own proof and not assuming everything will go smoothly.
Overall, though, Storm Competitions seems to have earned its reputation. It feels more transparent and better established than a lot of similar competition sites, and the feedback from winners is hard to ignore.
Just go into it with the right mindset. Set a budget, don’t chase losses, and treat it as a bit of fun rather than a plan.
