Two additional violent incidents were reported in the Shushufindi canton of Sucumbíos, occurring just two days after a massacre claimed four lives.
The latest victims, a man and a woman, were killed in a wave of violence that began at midnight on Thursday and continued into the following morning.
A resident known as Jordan was the target of hitmen who attacked a hair salon on Unidad Nacional Avenue. One of the assailants entered the salon and shot him before fleeing the scene. The man was struck in the head and collapsed near the barber chairs. As of now, authorities have not confirmed whether he was the salon owner or a customer.
In a separate case, a woman’s body was found submerged in a river in the Yamanunka community.
On October 10 at midnight, a woman was discovered dead in the Blanco River, located near the Shuar community of Yamanunka on the outskirts of Shushufindi. Local media reported that residents heard gunshots, which led them to investigate.
They found a woman’s shoe on the road and traces of blood. In their search of a nearby jungle area, a local resident noticed the body in the water. He jumped in and, with the help of neighbors, pulled the young woman out.
She was completely naked and had multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators were unable to identify her, as no personal items were recovered.
