Two young men tragically lost their lives in a road accident while on their way to visit Kalyani Tagore in Kalyani. Disturbing CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral, showing a speeding motorcycle colliding with a four-wheeler.
The accident occurred at the Polbar Rajhat intersection in Hooghly around 12:36 PM on Thursday, during the night of Saptami. The victims, 19-year-old Somnath Saha and 20-year-old Alak Tumba, were traveling from their home in Santragachi, near the Jagacha police station in Howrah, along Delhi Road. As they approached Rajhat Choumatha, their motorcycle struck the four-wheeler that was crossing the road. The impact caused the bike to catch fire almost instantly, creating a loud noise that shocked witnesses.
While the four-wheeler sustained damage to its door, the two young men were engulfed in flames. Bystanders rushed to their aid, but sadly, despite their efforts, the victims could not be saved. According to police, the area was under patrol by the Polba police station, and excessive speed was a contributing factor to the accident.
In response to this tragedy, the police are implementing measures to control vehicle speeds in the area. They noted that the accident was a result of road safety violations. CCTV footage also captured another motorcycle passing just before the collision, but its rider has not yet been identified.
