After four young boys climbed onto the roof of a subway car on Tuesday to film videos for TikTok, a serious accident occurred. Two of the boys, aged 17 and 18, struck a pedestrian bridge near Schönbrunn station. Emergency services were alerted immediately and transported the severely injured teenagers to hospitals in Vienna.
Their conditions are critical, and both are currently in intensive care. Medical teams are doing everything possible to save their lives.
As the 17- and 18-year-olds fight for survival, a video capturing the harrowing incident is circulating on social media.
The footage shows the boys filming themselves in a high-risk stunt, arms raised in excitement on the roof of the subway car just moments before impact. Initially, they manage to lie flat on their stomachs in time to avoid the first underpass, coming within mere centimeters of disaster. But at the second underpass, they collide dramatically with the pedestrian bridge.
The Vienna public transport authority and police are currently reviewing surveillance footage. The subway driver has also received psychological support. This tragic incident underscores the life-threatening consequences of such reckless stunts.
“For years, workshops have been conducted in schools in collaboration with the Education Directorate and police to raise awareness about safety and proper conduct around public transportation. Lectures and subway tours are part of these efforts,” Wiener Linien officials explain.
