A man was shot dead on Monday night (21) in a condominium near Sesi in Petrolina. Initial reports identify the victim as personal trainer Giovanny Diniz.
A video shared on social media shows a hooded assailant firing at least seven shots at Giovanny, who attempts to defend himself but is overpowered.
Just over eight months prior, Giovanny was hospitalized after trying to save his wife, Aila Pimenta, a fellow personal trainer, who tragically died from an electric shock while handling a clothesline at their home in the Padre Cícero subdivision. The motive for Giovanny’s murder remains unclear.
The Civil Police of Pernambuco (PCPE) arrested a suspect on Tuesday morning (22) in connection with Giovanny Diniz Carvalho’s death. The arrest took place in an apartment close to the crime scene, and reports indicate that the suspect is a military police officer, although his name has not been released.
Giovanny was shot in front of his home in the Vila Mocó neighborhood by a hooded man who fired multiple rounds.
Giovanny was a widower, having lost his wife Aila, 32, on February 22, when she suffered an electric shock while taking clothes off a line connected to an air conditioning support. At the time of the incident, Giovanny was also injured and required hospitalization, and their eldest daughter, aged 6, was treated for minor injuries from an electric shock she received while turning off the circuit breaker.
In addition to their 6-year-old, the couple had two other young children, aged 2 and 1.
